Stair climbs in Triad part of 9/11 commemorations

Among the observances on Saturday, the 20th anniversary of the attacks that began at the World Trade Center in New York, will be at least four stair climbs that could interest area runners and residents of the Triad.

All are free and are open to the public.

Climb to Remember

What: Wake Forest Army ROTC's No Fear! Battalion will honor the 2,997 victims of Sept. 11, 2001.

When: 6 a.m. Saturday.

Where: Truist Field, 499 Deacon Blvd., Winston-Salem.

Climb to Remember

What: Stair climb for first responders and the community to honor those who died on Sept. 11, 2001.

When: 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

Where: Truist Point, 343 Gatewood Ave., High Point.

9/11 Memorial Stair Climb

What: Stair climb of 110 flights, the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center towers.

When: 8:46 a.m. Saturday. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. and is also available online.

Where: 1408 Walker Ave., Greensboro. Parking is available at Josephine Boyd Drive and Walker Avenue beside the UNCG Baseball Stadium.

9/11 Memorial Stair Climb

What: The City of Greensboro will honor public safety personnel who died at the World Trade Center. Participants who climb nine times will equal the 73 flights of stairs that New York Fire Department firefighters reached on Sept. 11, 2001.

When: 9 a.m. Saturday. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m.

Where: Bellemeade Parking Deck, 220 N. Greene St., Greensboro.

Notable: T-shirts will be available for purchase.
