Tracks in the Triad: Here's where you can run and walk

A guide to tracks in Guilford and Forsyth counties that are considered open for runners and walkers.

Tracks in the Triad: Here's where you can run and walk
The track at Grimsley High School in Greensboro.

Runners and walkers in Guilford County can find no shortage of lined, 400-meter ovals for exercise or workouts that call for precise measurements and are devoid of cars. Seventeen tracks at high schools or elsewhere are available inside the county.

Guilford County Schools is serving as a strong running community supporter with this number of tracks available, but a reminder: Tracks are generally not open during school hours and aren't available when students are using those facilities.

Runners in Forsyth County are less fortunate. The Bob Sosnik Track at Winston-Salem's Hanes Park is open to the public except during Reynolds track and field and cross country team activities, and a track at Happy Hill Park is available. But ovals at the high schools in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools system are open only when school employees are performing maintenance, such as mowing grass or painting lines on the fields.

A listing of the available tracks in the two Triad counties, and I'm grateful for the information for high schools gathered by the Guilford County Schools communications office's Nora Shoptaw and county athletics director Leigh Hebbard.
