Winston-Salem's Cook Medical Beat the Heat 5K annually serves as the USATF state road race championship for 3.1 miles.

The Twin City Track Club's 2022 event will start at 6:30 p.m. July 16 with a fun run. A 5K at 7 p.m. will give us non-elite runners a chance to race and finish in time to watch the state's fastest men and women get going at 8 p.m.

The application period for charity partners that are 501(c)3 entities and that make a direct impact on fitness and community health is open through Jan. 7.

The 2021 elite race at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds proved to be Beat the Thunderstorm, and Donnie Cowart and Jonna Strange led the way in doing that.

Registration for Beat the Heat will open April 1.
