22 For '22! Twin City Track Club

I'd run three races – one of them in the 1900s – before what I consider my official start of running.

The Mistletoe Run Half Marathon, in December 2003, became the first race of my modern running career. And while the Mistletoe was not sponsored by the Twin City Track Club, it was there that I first encountered their members and their strong running community in Winston-Salem.

While the club, founded in 1977, does sponsor a number of races, all of them well-run, the TCTC is so much more than that. They're in action for volunteer opportunities and social activities to go with multiple group runs during a week's time. Their monthly series of $5 5Ks in spring and summer gives runners a chance to test their speed. Their members support JDL Fast Track's Camel City Elite Races, and in turn TCTC gets to use the facility for workouts once a week during cold weather. They host an annual winter seminar, always bringing in a leading personality in the sport, and now they're officially a Runner Friendly Community.

Most importantly, they're just good people.

I could go on, but the Twin City Track Club has said it best here, 15 reasons you should join them, as this Greensboro resident finally did a couple of years ago. Click here to read those.

And here's No. 16: Because Eddie recommended it.
